A recent image from Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) has provided a fresh perspective on the Tejas Mk1A's production status. The image shows Tejas Mk1A LA-5067, the 35th aircraft in production, on the assembly line, indicating that several airframes are in advanced production stages.\

This development is particularly interesting given the aircraft's serial designation, which places it in the later stages of the current Tejas Mk1A production sequence. It suggests that HAL is continuing to build airframes while earlier aircraft undergo flight trials, integration, and other pre-delivery activities.\

\

The appearance of LA-5067, corresponding to the SP-67 airframe, implies that there are potentially several aircraft between the 27 airframes completed by HAL and SP-67 in various stages of production. These could vary from final assembly, ground checks, systems integration, and awaiting flight trials.\

\

It would be inaccurate to state that all seven intervening airframes had already 'ready' without individual confirmation from HAL. The more defensible assessment is that at least several additional Tejas Mk1A airframes are physically continuing to progress through HAL's production system, with LA-5067 providing visual evidence.\

\

The production build-up is taking place against the backdrop of continuing efforts to stabilise supplies of GE Aerospace F404-IN20 engines for the Tejas Mk1A. HAL has previously indicated that engine availability was a major factor impacting upon how quickly completed airframes could move towards delivery.\

\

More recently, the company has said that it has received an additional supply of engines and expects to receive more in the future. HAL's 27-airframe disclosure and the appearance of a later SP-67 airframe indicate that aircraft production has moved ahead of the number currently passed through the complete delivery process.\

\

However, exactly how far in advance the airframes between the 27th completed aircraft and SP-67 have progressed cannot be known merely from the serial number or images from the assembly line. If engine availability improves, these aircraft could gradually begin to move into the flight testing and acceptance activities in the coming months.\

\

In conclusion, the Tejas Mk1A's production status is a positive development for the Indian Air Force, with multiple jets progressing through HAL's assembly line. This progress is a testament to the company's efforts to meet the demand for the aircraft, despite the challenges posed by engine availability.
