India's Warships Gear Up for a Game-Changer: Stealthy, 1,000km-Range Loitering Munition Takes Shape
The Indian Ministry of Defence has taken a significant step towards enhancing the country's long-range precision strike capabilities by issuing a request for information for a cutting-edge, medium-range loitering munition. The new system, designated LM-MR, will be capable of being launched from warships to strike targets at sea and on land, with a minimum range of at least 1,000km and a loiter endurance of at least 9 hours.
This ambitious project reflects the Indian Navy's push to expand its long-range precision strike options, allowing warships to engage targets far beyond their current reach. The LM-MR system will be designed to operate up to a ceiling of 15,000 feet and achieve a circular error probable of under one metre, an exceptionally tight precision requirement that would place the weapon in the same accuracy class as India's most advanced precision-guided munitions.

However, LM-MR's naval, ship-launched profile and considerably longer range and endurance requirements distinguish it from those tactical, land-based systems, positioning it closer in concept and reach to a long-range precision strike weapon than to the smaller loitering munitions currently used for tactical battlefield engagement.
