The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has achieved a historic milestone with the successful maiden live jump of the Advanced High-Altitude Parachute (AHAP) system at Nyoma, one of the highest-altitude drop zones in the country. This achievement marks a significant step towards Aatmanirbhar Bharat, showcasing India's indigenous capabilities in developing advanced parachute systems for Defence Forces.
The AHAP system was designed and developed by the Aerial Delivery Research and Development Establishment (ADRDE) in Agra, in collaboration with the Ordnance Parachute Factory (OPF) in Kanpur. The system has been manufactured by OPF and inspected by the Directorate General of Aeronautical Quality Assurance (DGAQA). The Centre for Military Airworthiness and Certification (CEMILAC) in RCMA, Kanpur, has certified the system.
The AHAP system is a static line parachute system designed for mass drop of paratroopers. It offers various deployment modes and has a very wide operational altitude range of up to 18,000 feet. The system has been specifically designed to provide the safest rate of descent, especially suited for the tactical requirements of the Indian Defence Forces for high-altitude terrains.

Explore Carbon Fiber →Static line parachute jumps at high altitudes are complex and inherently risky, owing to the very high opening shock and rate of descent. The successful maiden live jump of the AHAP system has proven its efficacy and tactical employability at extreme high-altitude terrains.
The Raksha Mantri, Shri Rajnath Singh, has complimented the DRDO, Defence Forces, DPSUs, and Industry on the successful maiden live jump of the AHAP indigenous parachute system. He termed it as another big step towards Aatmanirbhar Bharat.
The Defence Secretary and Secretary, Department of Defence R&D & Chairman, DRDO, Shri Rajesh Kumar Singh, congratulated the team members associated with the design and development of the system.
The successful maiden live jump of the AHAP system is a testament to India's growing capabilities in developing advanced parachute systems. It marks a significant milestone in the country's journey towards self-reliance in defence technology. The AHAP system is expected to play a crucial role in enhancing the tactical capabilities of the Indian Defence Forces, particularly in high-altitude terrains.
The DRDO's achievement is a result of the collaborative efforts of various stakeholders, including the Defence Forces, DPSUs, and Industry. The successful maiden live jump of the AHAP system has paved the way for further development and deployment of advanced parachute systems in the country.
In conclusion, the successful maiden live jump of the AHAP system is a significant achievement for India's defence technology sector. It showcases the country's growing capabilities in developing advanced parachute systems and marks a significant step towards Aatmanirbhar Bharat.
