India's Indigenous Shipbuilding Prowess: Shreyas OPV Sets New Maritime Standards\n\nIn a significant milestone for India's naval capabilities, the Indian Navy has commissioned the cutting-edge Offshore Patrol Vessel (OPV) Shreyas in Kolkata. Launched at the Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers (GRSE) yard, Shreyas is the latest addition to India's indigenous shipbuilding prowess.\n\nThis Next Generation Offshore Patrol Vessel, Yard 3040, is designed to enhance maritime surveillance, search & rescue, and anti-piracy capabilities. Named Shreyas, meaning 'Best' or 'Most Excellent' in Sanskrit, it embodies India's pursuit of self-reliance through Aatmanirbhar Bharat and Make in India initiatives.\n\nThe launch of Shreyas marks yet another significant milestone in the Indian Navy's pursuit towards indigenous shipbuilding. This achievement is in consonance with the Government of India's vision of 'Aatmanirbhar Bharat' and 'Make in India' initiatives.\n\nThe construction of NGOPVs is concurrently being undertaken at two shipyards (GSL, Goa & GRSE, Kolkata). These indigenously designed and built ships will augment the existing OPVs/ NOPVs for multi-domain operations, such as maritime surveillance, search & rescue, protection of offshore assets, HADR and anti-piracy missions.\n\nThese ships derive their names from India's rich heritage, with this ship being named as 'Shreyas'. The launch of Shreyas reflects the rich traditions and ethos of the Indian Navy.\n\nSenior dignitaries from the Indian Navy, Ministry of Defence, GRSE and Industry Partners attended the occasion. The event was marked by the presence of VAdm Ajay Kochhar, Vice Chief of the Naval Staff, and Mrs Reyman Kochhar, who launched the vessel.\n\nThe Indian Navy's pursuit towards indigenous shipbuilding is a significant step towards enhancing its capabilities. The launch of Shreyas OPV is a testament to India's growing capabilities in the maritime domain.\n\nAs the Indian Navy continues to strengthen its presence in the Indian Ocean Region, the Shreyas OPV will play a crucial role in enhancing maritime surveillance, search & rescue, and anti-piracy capabilities.\n\nIn conclusion, the launch of Shreyas OPV marks a significant milestone in India's indigenous shipbuilding prowess. This achievement will have a lasting impact on India's maritime capabilities and its position as a major naval power.
