India's defence sector is taking significant strides in enhancing its aerial delivery capabilities. Gliders India Limited, a defence public sector undertaking, has issued an Expression of Interest (EoI) to select a business partner for the G-11 Heavy Drop Platform. This platform is integral to the Heavy Drop System for C-130J and C-17 military transport aircraft.
The EoI, dated 24 September 2026, seeks an industry partner for development, manufacturing, qualification, and supply of the G-11 platform. The scope of this EoI includes various stages of the programme rather than just supplying an existing product. These stages include development, manufacturing, qualification, and subsequent supply of the platform.
The C-130J and C-17 are both operated by the Indian Air Force for tactical and strategic airlift missions. A heavy drop platform is used as part of an aerial delivery system, enabling the transportation and release of heavy loads from transport aircraft. The EoI could provide an opportunity for an Indian industrial partner to participate in developing equipment associated with the aircraft's heavy-drop capability.

Explore Carbon Fiber →Gliders India Limited's parent establishment, the Ordnance Parachute Factory in Kanpur, has long-standing capabilities in parachute and aerial delivery equipment. This new EoI seeks to bring in an external business partner into the G-11 programme for the specified development and production activities.
The document states that detailed technical drawings, specifications, and other controlled technical information will be shared with shortlisted firms, subject to the execution of a Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA). This means that key characteristics of the G-11 platform, including the detailed design, load-handling parameters, aircraft integration requirements, and qualification criteria, are not available in the initial EoI notice.
Interested companies will submit their responses to the EoI for consideration by Gliders India. The PSU said that submitting an EoI response will not create any right to selection, award of work, purchase order, or business association.
The G-11 Heavy Drop Platform is a critical component of India's aerial delivery capabilities. By partnering with Gliders India Limited, Indian industry can contribute to the development of this platform and enhance the country's strategic airlift capabilities. The partnership could also lead to the development of new technologies and expertise in the field of aerial delivery systems.
In conclusion, the G-11 Heavy Drop Platform EoI presents a significant opportunity for Indian industry to participate in the development of a critical defence system. By partnering with Gliders India Limited, Indian companies can contribute to the enhancement of the country's aerial delivery capabilities and develop new technologies and expertise in the field.
