India's Demographic Shift: Deporting Illegal Immigrants from Jammu and Kashmir\n\nIn a significant move to address demographic changes in border areas, Indian authorities have deported 150 Bangladeshis from Jammu and Kashmir to West Bengal. This development comes as part of the Union Home Ministry's efforts to study and recommend measures to counter illegal immigration.\n\nA survey conducted by the administration and Jammu and Kashmir Police found around 600 Bangladeshis staying illegally in the region. These individuals were identified through a thorough investigation and were subsequently kept in a camp manned by the Srinagar police.\n\nThe deportation process began with the transportation of 150 people to Bagdogra, where they were handed over to Border Security Force (BSF) personnel. The BSF will be responsible for pushing these individuals back to their country of origin.\n\nThis development is a result of the Union Home Ministry's decision to constitute a High-Level Committee on Demographic Change (HLCDC) to study demographic changes arising from illegal immigration and other factors. The HLCDC was formed on May 26 to submit its report within one year.\n\nThe Committee, headed by Justice Prakash Prabhakar Navlekar (Retired), will scientifically assess demographic changes occurring in various parts of the country due to illegal immigration and other abnormal reasons. It will also analyze their causes and recommend appropriate policy, legislative, and administrative measures.\n\nThe HLCDC has sought details from states and Union Territories regarding visible changes in religious demography across districts, industrial clusters, and border districts over the last 15 years. The Committee has also requested time-series data indicating changes over the years, alongside other administrative datasets.\n\nThe deportation of 150 Bangladeshis from Jammu and Kashmir is a significant step towards addressing demographic changes in border areas. It is a testament to the Indian government's commitment to studying and addressing the issue of illegal immigration.\n\nAs the HLCDC continues its work, it is essential to note that the Committee's findings and recommendations will have a significant impact on the country's demographic landscape. The government's efforts to address demographic changes will be crucial in maintaining the country's cultural and religious diversity.\n\nIn conclusion, the deportation of 150 Bangladeshis from Jammu and Kashmir is a significant development in India's efforts to address demographic changes in border areas. The Union Home Ministry's decision to constitute the HLCDC will play a crucial role in shaping the country's demographic landscape in the years to come.
