The request for proposals (RFP) has been extended, with the current deadline for submissions being 30 October 2026. The three companies in competition are Tata Advanced Systems, the group led by Larsen & Toubro together with Bharat Electronics and Dynamatic Technologies, and the consortium headed by Bharat Forge including BEML and Data Patterns.\

The entity that is selected will be responsible for carrying out the prototype development under the overall design control of the ADA. The RFP requires five flying prototypes and one structural test article, along with the necessary tooling, test equipment, and supporting infrastructure. Importantly, the RFP schedule stipulates that the first prototype must complete its taxi checks and make its first flight by the 30-month mark after the contract is awarded.\

To achieve the September 2028 flight target, prototype manufacturing cannot wait until after the contract is awarded before starting all activities; major material and component procurement, tooling, manufacturing-process qualification, and subsystem preparation must all proceed in parallel. The ADA has already issued procurement requirements relating to AMCA development.\

A major piece of infrastructure is also being developed in Andhra Pradesh. In May, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh laid the foundation stone for the ADA's Aircraft Integration and Flight Testing Centre at Puttaparthi, a facility intended to speed up the AMCA's integration, testing, validation, and certification processes.\

The facility is to be a dedicated integration and flight-test complex and is expected to support the AMCA programme as it progresses towards prototype development. If September 2028 remains the objective, the programme will have a tightly compressed sequence: prototype manufacturing and assembly, subsystem integration, engine installation, power-up, ground testing, taxi trials, and finally flight clearance.\

The opening of the bids on 30 October 2026, followed by their evaluation and the award of the contract, will be the next key milestones.
