NIA Launches Investigation into Mid-Air Cockpit Attack on Flydubai Flight

In a shocking incident that sent shockwaves across the aviation industry, a flydubai flight was the site of a mid-air cockpit attack last month, leaving the captain seriously injured. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has since registered a case to probe the alleged terror attack, citing provisions under the Anti-Hijacking Act, 2016, and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967.

According to officials, the incident occurred on September 30, when flydubai flight FZ1073 was en route from Dubai to Tel Aviv. Captain Smit Machchhar, an Indian national, was stabbed by his co-pilot in the cockpit, allegedly in an attempt to hijack the aircraft or cause it to crash. The attack left the captain seriously injured, prompting an immediate response from the authorities.

The NIA registered a First Information Report (FIR) on October 9, marking the beginning of a comprehensive investigation into the incident. Officials have cited the FIR as the basis for their probe, which is being conducted under the country's anti-hijacking and anti-terror legislation.

Investigation Underway

The NIA is working closely with other agencies to gather evidence and identify those responsible for the alleged attack. The investigation is expected to be thorough and comprehensive, with officials reviewing all available footage and witness statements.

The flydubai flight was carrying 90 passengers and crew members at the time of the incident. Fortunately, no one else was injured, and the flight was able to continue to its destination without further incident.

Co-Pilot's Motive Remains Unclear

The motive behind the alleged attack remains unclear, and officials are still working to determine the co-pilot's intentions. The incident has sparked widespread speculation, with some reports suggesting that the co-pilot may have been acting alone.

The NIA has not made any arrests yet, but officials have assured that all possible leads are being pursued. The investigation is ongoing, and the agency is expected to release more information as it becomes available.
