DRDO's High-Altitude Platform: A Leap Towards Aatmanirbhar Bharat

The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has successfully conducted the flight trial of its indigenously developed High-Altitude Platform (HAPS). This lighter-than-air system, designed and developed by the Aerial Delivery Research and Development Establishment (ADRDE), Agra, has achieved an altitude of 21 km above mean sea level (AMSL) and remained at 20 km AMSL for over 30 minutes.

The experimental flight was conducted in coordination with various agencies, including the Indian Air Force, CEMILAC, DGCA, Airports Authority of India (AAI), and other civil authorities. The system was equipped with various instrumentation and control electronic packages, such as an inertial measurement unit, Global positioning system receiver, onboard cameras, altitude control mechanism, and other sub-systems.

The real-time video data and all other vehicle parameters were acquired from the Airborne platform at the Ground Control Station during the entire flight. The data showed intended flight performance, indicating the system's reliability and effectiveness. The successful trial is an important milestone in India's Aatmanirbhar Bharat journey towards realizing a long endurance stratospheric Airship.
