India Cracks Down on ISIS Recruitment Efforts Online\n\nIn a significant move to combat terrorism, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has filed a chargesheet against nine members and supporters of the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) for their alleged involvement in radicalising gullible youths to join violent terrorist activities.\n\nThe investigation, which was taken over by the NIA from the Vijayawada II Town police station, has established that the accused persons entered into a larger conspiracy to support the activities of the banned terror group primarily through social media platforms like Instagram.\n\nThe accused individuals, who include Mohammad Rehmatullah Shariff, Mohammed Danish, Mirza Sohail Baig, Lucky Ahmad, Jishan Abdul Majid, Mir Ashif Ali, Abdul Salaam, Sharuk Khan, and Shaikh Faiz ur Rehman, were charge-sheeted under sections 61(2) read with 3(5) and 152 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and sections 13(1), 38, and 39 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).\n\nThe BNS sections are related to criminal conspiracy, common interest, and endangering the sovereignty, unity, and integrity of India, while the UAPA sections are related to punishment for unlawful activities, membership, and support given to terrorist organisations.\n\nAccording to the NIA, the accused persons motivated and radicalised gullible youths to join violent terrorist activities and also planned and prepared for making explosives and undertaking weapon training.\n\nIn pursuance of the conspiracy, the accused also developed and tested a secure application for secretly communicating among themselves as part of their preparation for the violent terrorist activities.\n\nThe case was registered on March 23, 2026, and so far, 11 accused and a child in conflict with law have been apprehended in the case.\n\nThis move by the NIA is a significant step towards cracking down on ISIS recruitment efforts online and preventing the spread of radical ideology.\n\nThe use of social media platforms by terrorist organisations to recruit and radicalise individuals is a growing concern, and this case highlights the need for increased vigilance and cooperation between law enforcement agencies and social media companies to prevent the spread of extremist content.\n\nAs the investigation continues, it is clear that the NIA is committed to taking a tough stance against terrorism and protecting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of India.\n\nIn conclusion, the NIA's efforts to combat terrorism and prevent the spread of radical ideology are crucial in maintaining national security and ensuring the safety of citizens.
