India Charts a New Course in Defence Self-Reliance

India's Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has underscored the need for the country to reduce its dependence on foreign defence supply chains. The Heavy Vehicles Factory at Avadi (Tamil Nadu) has supplied around 4,400 tanks to the Indian Army over the past four decades, reflecting its significant contribution to India's armoured capabilities. The new project will further strengthen Jabalpur's identity as a defence hub and will also set new benchmarks in quality, productivity, innovation, and global competitiveness.

Armoured Vehicles Nigam Ltd (AVNL), which has experience in overhauling T-72 and T-90 variant tanks, will play a crucial role in this endeavour. The company's expertise will help ensure that the overhauled tanks are of the highest quality and are equipped with the latest technologies.
