High Alert On Jammu Srinagar Highway As Suspicious Vehicle Flee'S Security Checkpoint - High COVID-19 Alert Level Poster

The Jammu-Srinagar highway, a critical route for the ongoing Amarnath Yatra, has been put on high alert after a suspicious vehicle fled a police checkpoint at Chanderkote in Ramban. The incident has raised concerns about the safety of pilgrims embarking on the 57-day Yatra, which is expected to conclude on August 28.

The Yatra, which resumed from Jammu on Thursday, has seen a batch of 1,801 pilgrims depart for the cave shrine in South Kashmir under tight security. However, the latest incident has highlighted the importance of maintaining a high level of vigilance on the highway, which is used by convoys carrying devotees to and from the Valley.

According to officials, the four-wheeler vehicle ignored signals to stop at a security check in Chanderkote and accelerated towards Nashri, prompting police to fire three warning shots. However, the driver managed to flee the area, leaving security forces scrambling to track down the vehicle.

A joint search operation is underway, involving police, the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), and the Army, to locate the vehicle and identify those traveling in it. The operation is being conducted in the area and surrounding routes, with security forces combing the region to gather information about the suspicious vehicle.

The Amarnath Yatra, which has seen over 4.71 lakh pilgrims pay obeisance at the cave shrine so far, is a significant pilgrimage for devotees from across the country. The Yatra is expected to conclude on August 28, coinciding with Shravan Purnima and Raksha Bandhan festivals.

As the security forces continue their search operation, the highway remains on high alert, with a heightened sense of vigilance among the security personnel. The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of maintaining a strong security presence on the highway, particularly during the peak pilgrimage season.

The search operation is expected to continue until the vehicle is located and its occupants identified. In the meantime, the security forces are working closely with the local administration to gather information and ensure the safety of pilgrims embarking on the Yatra.

As the situation unfolds, one thing is clear: the security forces will leave no stone unturned in their efforts to locate the suspicious vehicle and ensure the safety of pilgrims on the Jammu-Srinagar highway. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of maintaining a strong security presence on the highway, particularly during the peak pilgrimage season. With the search operation ongoing, the security forces are working tirelessly to ensure the safety of pilgrims and maintain the integrity of the Yatra.
